Wine of Racha-Lechkhumi
Mountain vineyards, a short season, and very little wine.
The highest vineyards in Georgia and the smallest production of any region. Racha is under snow for a good part of the year, the growing season is short, and the grapes — Aleksandrouli and Mujuretuli — ripen late with high sugar. That is the reason for the naturally semi-sweet reds the area is known for: fermentation stops in the cold cellar before the sugar runs out. Roads are slow and some families are only reachable between May and October.

Jorbenadze Terraces
Nodar Jorbenadze replanted his grandfather’s terraces in 2019 after they had stood empty for thirty years, which in Racha involved rebuilding the dry stone walls before anything could go in the ground.
