The family

Chkhaveri is picked in November, sometimes December, later than almost any grape in Georgia, and it makes a red so pale that people regularly send it back thinking it is a rose.

The Zhordania family have four hundred vines trained up on wooden frames above Ozurgeti, the old Gurian way of keeping fruit off wet ground. Maia Zhordania makes about six hundred bottles. She does not sell to shops.
