The family
Three sisters run this marani on the eastern edge of Telavi: Tamar keeps the vineyard, Ketevan makes the wine, and Salome, who spent six years working in restaurants in Warsaw, cooks and talks to guests. Their father planted the Kisi in 1987 and left the house to all three of them, which he apparently thought was funny.
The wine is made in qvevri and in one very old oak vat that Ketevan refuses to retire. Production is about two thousand bottles, and roughly half of it goes to people who turned up at the gate.
